THE PREDICTION
This promises to be a fierce battle between two players who have enjoyed the best periods of their career over the past 12 months. World number 21 Nicolas Jarry came back from a set down to oust former number three Stan Wawrinka on Wednesday and he should be better for it in this intriguing quarter-final, back on his favoured clay after an excellent spell on grass and hardcourts in 2023. The Chilean beat world number 27 Tomas Martin Etcheverry from a set down to win his second ATP title, on home clay, at the Santiago Open this time last season but Etcheverry won their first tour-level encounter in his native Argentina at the 2022 Cordoba Open. 24-year-old Etcheverry has coasted through his first few rounds in Buenos Aires but an avoidable defeat to Federico Coria this time last week in Cordoba makes this a tricky call. Back Etcheverry, fuelled by a partisan support this time around, to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable semi-finalists.
