Despite being dealt a difficult first round draw against a seeded opponent, Naomi Osaka passed the challenge with flying colours, looking like the champion she is in a display which included nine aces and a three out of three break points won, underlining her ability to come up clutch when it matters most. She’ll need to show a similar level of ruthlessness vs Karolina Muchova, who reached the last four at Flushing Meadows last year.
As excellent a player as Muchova is, if Osaka is at her best then the Japanese superstar can beat any player in the tournament and would overwhelm Muchova with her power both on serve and at the baseline. Expect a close contest, but for Osaka to once again emerge victorious.
