THE PREDICTION

World number 17 Jannik Sinner finally ended Arthur Fils’ incredible run at the Montpellier Open and he looks in pole position to lift his seventh ATP title in this first meeting with Maxime Cressy. World number 51 Cressy grabbed the biggest shock of the week, though, in ousting top seed Holger Rune in three tight sets on Saturday – backing up an excellent straight-sets win over third seed Borna Coric. The American claimed his maiden title on grass last summer in Newport but he has made this stage on a hardcourt before, finishing runner-up to Rafael Nadal at Melbourne 2 at the start of last season. Sinner’s five titles on a hardcourt, and two indoors amongst that number, suggest he is the reasonable favourite here on experience and the Italian’s level-headedness should aid him in overcoming Cressy’s clear form this week. Sinner has only lost one final so far and the ice-cold Italian can be backed to uphold that run with an outright win.
