THE PREDICTION

25-year-old Belinda Bencic started 2023 in blistering form, taking the Adelaide 2 title before her winning streak was ended at eight matches in the round of 16 of the Australian Open by eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka. That streak took the Swiss back inside the top 10 on tour and the former world number four looks set to enjoy perhaps her best season on tour with some clear and apparent changes under new coach Dmitry Tursunov. World number 57 Marta Kostyuk looks to be on the cusp of finding some consistency on tour after a decent run to the quarter-finals at the Hua Hin Open last week was ended by Bianca Andreescu. The 20-year-old remains a clear rising star to watch out for, with wins over the likes of Elena Rybakina and Amanda Anisimova last month vastly encouraging. At this moment in time Bencic looks the reasonable favourite, though, and she can be backed to take this in straight sets as she did in their first meeting at the Miami Open last season.
