THE PREDICTION
World number 14 Marin Cilic finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Tel Aviv Open on Sunday but he responded well in Astana, coming back from a choppy first set down to beat Oscar Otte in three. The 34-year-old is yet to win an ATP title this season but he claimed two last year as he began a renaissance in form that saw him reach the semi-finals of Roland-Garros this summer and take eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz all the way to five sets at the US Open last month. World number 18 Karen Khachanov is also a man in form, though, after he stunned Nick Kyrgios in five sets in New York to reach a first Grand Slam semi-final before coming unstuck against eventual runner-up Casper Ruud. The 26-year-old continued that form in his first match back on tour on Tuesday, ousting Maxime Cressy in impressive straight sets.
Cilic leads Khachanov 3-2 in their head-to-head record but this is the fourth meeting between the two this season, with the Russian leading 2-1. Khachanov has claimed at least a set in four of their five previous encounters, so take that option to leave the winner up to chance.
