THE PREDICTION
19-year-old Maria Timofeeva is through to the semi-finals of the Hungarian Grand Prix on her tour debut after coming back from a set down to upset Kaja Juvan on Friday. The Russian will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 172nd for her trouble and she looks a dangerous force to stop in this momentum as a lucky loser from qualifying. World number 80 Nadia Podoroska conceded just four games to Elina Avanesyan in another surprising result on Friday, setting out her stall as the title favourite here in Budapest. The 26-year-old reached the semi-finals of Roland-Garros at her peak in 2020 before injuries in recent seasons but she will be desperate to grab her maiden WTA title this weekend as the highest ranked player left in the draw. Timofeeva is an anomaly, though, and should not be underestimated in this biggest week of her young career. Take Podoroska to win outright here or consider one set in favour of the Russian.
