THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Marc-Andrea Huesler put in an assured performance on Thursday to beat in-form Jack Draper in straight sets, backing up impressive victories over both of last season’s Winston-Salem finalists Ilya Ivashka and Mikael Ymer. The Swiss will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 85th no matter the outcome here but this is a huge opportunity for a first tour final that he will be desperate to take against Laslo Djere. World number 89 Djere is one match away from a first tour final on a hardcourt but the Serb has plenty of experience at this stage of a tournament as a three-time finalist and owner of two ATP titles on his favoured clay. The 27-year-old has played three sets in each of his four matches this week after most recently ousting Richard Gasquet in a tight quarter-final on Thursday and that looks a suitable alternative to picking an out-and-out winner here. Djere beat Huesler in straight sets last month at the Bastad Open, so back him to win at least a set here and leave the result up to chance.
