THE PREDICTION

World number 27 Magda Linette beat Yulia Putintseva in comfortable straight sets on Friday to reach her sixth WTA tour final and a first as a top seed. The 31-year-old set a career-high WTA world ranking of 19th in March off the back of her meteoric run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open but it has been a steady decline since January after struggling with the new target on her back. That could be about to change on Saturday but world number 88 Xiyu Wang will receive a partisan support as the home hopeful through to her first ever tour final. The 22-year-old is capable of much better tennis than her current ranking suggests and she will move back inside the top 70 on tour no matter the outcome here, closer to her career-high of 49th set after some impressive results this time last year.

Linette beat a teenage Wang in three tight sets at the Hua Hin Championships three years ago but the Chinese is untested at this level and home advantage could prove the difference. Taking Linette to earn at least a set looks the sensible way to avoid a result but if forced to choose take Wang to edge through amidst raucous scenes.
