The 28-year-old would certainly choose to be fit for Cincinnati of the two Masters events in August as a former champion here back in 2019 and she will be backed to the hilt throughout the tournament as a popular home favourite. World number 29 Elise Mertens brings a three-match losing streak into Cincinnati and she has won just one of her last five matches on tour since reaching yet another round of 16 at a Grand Slam, this time at Roland-Garros. The 27-year-old used to be one of the most consistent high performers on tour but she has suffered some more erratic form for much of 2023. Keys leads their head-to-head 3-0 having never dropped a set to the Belgian but her injury last week makes straight sets a risk. Take the American to win outright.
