The 21-year-old reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last season via an excellent five-set upset over Alexander Zverev and he also made the semi-finals here before defeat to eventual champion Ugo Humbert. World number 53 Mackenzie McDonald beat Marc-Andrea Huesler in straight sets on Monday for a first win on grass this season but the American will need to step it up several levels to oust the fourth seed. Auger-Aliassime’s recent performances have not been convincing enough to back him in straight sets but the Canadian should be coming through this first meeting with McDonald relatively comfortably.
