There will be an Italian in the Palermo Open final on Sunday after world number 78 Lucia Bronzetti and number 61 Jasmine Paolini both cam back from sets down to win on Friday. 21-year-old Bronzetti’s victory over the highest-remaining seed, Caroline Garcia, was particularly impressive as possibly the youngster’s career-best result considering Garcia’s recent form. Not to be outdone, Paolini overcame a stern assault by Nuria Parrizas-Diaz on Friday with a level of tennis that saw her break the top 50 on the WTA tour late last season. The pair have never met on tour and this first meeting is a tough call considering they should both have corners of support at a home tournament. Paolini has the experience of winning a WTA title behind her but Bronzetti’s defeat of Garcia is the best result of the week. Back Bronzetti to win at least a set as the just-about likelier victor here, leaving the inner up to chance.
