THE PREDICTION
This should be a proper thriller on Monday as world number 22 Nicolas Jarry targets revenge for his Davis Cup group stage defeat to Lorenzo Sonego in Bologna last month. 27-year-old Jarry beat up-and-comer Terence Atmane in straight sets to get his Shanghai campaign underway strongly on Saturday and he took Alexander Zverev to three sets in the quarter-finals of the China Open, two rounds after upsetting Stefanos Tsitsipas, in Beijing last time out to look ready for a fight here. World number 59 Sonego is far better than his current deflated ranking suggests but he has endured a pretty choppy past two seasons on tour. Coming back from a set down to stun 10th seed Frances Tiafoe on Saturday is exactly the sort of performance the Italian is capable of, though, and Jarry knows that only too well after their last encounter. Sonego leads this head-to-head record 2-0 but both encounters have seen sets go both ways. Back Jarry to earn at least one again here as the just-about likelier victor in these conditions.
