World number 18 Lorenzo Musetti is a tough opening draw for most players here at the US Open but barring a significant improvement on hardcourts comes quickly he is not much of a threat to the second week in New York. The 21-year-old reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros for a second year out of three this summer before defeat to Carlos Alcaraz and he has performed consistently well for the past few months without really troubling the best on tour. World number 171 Titouan Droguet stunned former world number 17 Cristian Garin in qualifying en-route to the main draw in New York, where he will make his ATP tour and Grand Slam debut. The 22-year-old stands a real chance at the upset given his qualifying run but Musetti should be coming through this potential banana skin relatively unscathed. An outright call for Musetti is the sensible call here so consider taking Droguet to snatch at least a set as a more valuable one off.
