THE PREDICTION
World number 105 Lauren Davis is riding a four-match losing streak into the US Open, stretching back to a second-round defeat to Amanda Anisimova at Wimbledon. The 28-year-old former world number 26 favours hardcourts, on which she claimed her inly WTA title to date at the 2017 Auckland International, with three third round exits at the Australian Open in the past decade suggesting she has the edge over the more clay-orientated Lucia Bronzetti. 23-year-old Bronzetti is making her US Open debut to complete the set this season and she comes in at a career-high WTA world ranking of 59th after reaching a first tour final at the Palermo Ladies Open. The Italian also finished runner-up at a Challenger event last week on a hardcourt for some solid form on the surface but Davis should still be able to edge through on home soil. Back the American to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
