THE PREDICTION
World number 25 Elena Rybakina and number 82 Katerina Siniakova’s last two rounds could not have been more different at the Slovenia Open. 26-year-old Siniakova was forced to play twice on Saturday, first beating the defending champion Jasmine Paolini before ousting Anna-Lena Friedsam in straight sets in the semi-finals, whilst Rybakina received a wildcard to the last four before a comprehensive victory over in-form Ana Bogdan. The Kazakh will be the better rested player here but Siniakova is a seasoned doubles champion well-used to playing plenty of matches – although usually she would find herself out early in the singles and playing the final in the doubles, The Czech won two WTA titles back in 2017 and this is her seventh tour final overall, so nerves should not come into this clash with the Wimbledon champion, but Rybakina is certainly the favourite. The 23-year-old leads their head-to-head record 4-2 having won each of their last three encounters in straight sets and backing her to do the same here seems a reasonable enough risk.
