This could be a fascinating scrap between two veterans of the tour as former number five Sara Errani takes on former number one Karolina Pliskova for the first time since 2015. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record that means very little almost a decade on from their last encounter, particularly as they currently find themselves ranked outside the top 70 on tour – although that is symptomatic of a steady decline for Pliskova and something of a renaissance for Errani. 36-year-old Errani will enjoy the majority of the support as a popular former tour stalwart playing the role of severe underdog against Pliskova, who is still far too good to be ranked any lower than top 30, but the Italian will face by far her toughest test yet after impressing this week. 31-year-old Pliskova struggled to find her best serving rhythm on Thursday but she made short work of Camila Osorio to look capable of rolling through the semi-finals.
