THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Karolina Muchova is through to the round of 16 without dropping a set after coming through a quality battle with Taylor Townsend on Friday. The 27-year-old returned from her latest injury lay-off earlier this year with a mountain to climb but she has surpassed expectations early by reaching a maiden Grand Slam final at Roland-Garros, where she came closer than anyone to beating Iga Swiatek in a close three-set defeat. Muchova also reached her first Masters final two weeks ago in Cincinnati before a more convincing defeat to Coco Gauff but recent form sets out her stall as the overwhelming favourite here. 21-year-old Xinyu Wang reached the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time with an excellent comeback over Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova on Friday and she will break the top 40 on tour for her efforts no matter the outcome here. The Chinese up-and-comer has all the hallmarks of a potential future top 10, especially on hardcourts, but at this moment in time the current number 10 should come through in two.
