THE PREDICTION

This should be another robust edition of a recent rivalry between world number 24 Marin Cilic and number 27 Karen Khachanov. The pair have faced each other twice already within the last few months, with Cilic beating the Russian on his way to the St. Petersburg Open title last October and Khachanov returning the favour at Adelaide 1 on his way to the final there in January. 25-year-old Khachanov has impressed so far in Doha with two straight-set victories over Mackenzie McDonald and Emil Ruusuvuori but fourth seed Cilic also took out hardy competition with a straight-sets victory over Botic van de Zandschulp. There has been a tiebreak in all three of their matches, so taking at least one here instead of opting for a tricky result to call looks a decent option here. At a push, Cilic is the man in better form and he leads this head-to-head record 2-1 to come in the slight favourite.
