THE PREDICTION
17-year-old Juncheng Shang was handed a wildcard to the main draw at the Miami Open after some impressive results on the ITF and Futures tours in recent months. The world number 441 has a tough draw here against world number 84 Denis Kudla, who burst into form in Phoenix last week to win the Singles and Men’s Doubles titles at a Challenger event from a quality field. The 29-year-old dropped sets in both of his qualifying matches this week but they will have been useful in recalibrating himself from a circuit title win and he looks a pretty solid favourite to overpower the young Chinese prospect here. Shang has yet to take a set on tour but backing Kudla to come through outright seems a sensible concession.
