JULIA RIERA VS IRINA-CAMELIA BEGU PREDICTION
21-year-old Julia Riera came back from a set down to oust Alex Eala in the third round of qualifying on Thursday, earning her Grand Slam debut the hard way here in Paris. The Argentine won an ITF event on her favoured clay in Germany earlier this month to bring some momentum into the first round but she has drawn a short straw in former number 22 Irina-Camelia Begu, who has impressed on her return from injury.
33-year-old Begu reached the third round here last year, and she has twice reached the round of 16 in 2016 and 2022, before an injury at the US Open ended her season early. The Romanian reached the round of 16 at the Italian Open last time out in only her second tournament this year and she looks too powerful for Riera in conditions that suit them both. Back Begu to win.
