THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Jule Niemeier is yet to drop a set this week at the Transylvania Open, upsetting a home favourite in Ana Bogdan on Monday before a more comfortable result against Kamilla Rakhimova on Wednesday. The German will break the top 70 on the WTA tour for a first time after reaching the quarter-finals but she should be well inside the top 40 by now after her incredible run to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon this summer went unrewarded in ranking points. World number 78 Jasmine Paolini beat Niemeier in three sets in their first meeting just a few weeks ago at the Emilia-Romagna Open but the tables should be turned, or at least more level, away from the clay. 26-year-old Paolini has beaten some tough opponents this week in Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska but Niemeier should just about be able to edge this. Take the German to win at least a set inside an accumulator or risk the outright on its own.
