THE PREDICTION
Second seed Anett Kontaveit has struggled with covid-19 complications over the last few weeks on tour but after starting a little rusty against Bernarda Pera the 26-year-old looked to regain some confidence from a straight-sets victory on Monday. Kontaveit was previously thought of as a good grass-courter this time last season but a huge upturn in form saw her win four tournaments on hardcourts late in the year before finishing runner-up at the WTA Finals on her debut. World number 97 Jule Niemeier will be a tough second round opponent though as the young German continues to improve on tour. The 22-year-old made short work of Xiyu Wang on Monday and she he has impressed on grass this month, taking the likes of Belinda Bencic and Daria Kasatkina to three sets before defeat in Berlin and Bad Homburg, respectively. A fully fit and firing Kontaveit could be backed to take this first meeting in two sets but with some trepidation still hovering around take the Estonian to win outright.
