JORDAN THOMPSON VS YOSHIHITO NISHIOKA PREDICTION

There is little doubt that the best two players this week are meeting in the final at the Atlanta Open as Jordan Thompson faces Yoshihito Nishioka in what should be a highly competitive match. They have met four times before and Nishioka has won all four encounters. The interesting point that comes from those meetings however is that all of them went to the three sets, which is somewhat surprising given the same player won all four.

Nishioka has been in good form this week and despite dropping a set, overcame Arthur Rinderknech in the semis in a hard-fought win. He has played at a consistently high level all week and will be confident coming into this match.

Thompson will be confident himself after playing some superb tennis this week. He thoroughly deserved his win over Shang Juncheng in the semis on Saturday night as he outplayed the young Chinese prodigy. He is going to have to do something he only managed to do on the Challenger Tour in 2018 and find a way to beat Nishioka.

Despite the dominant head-to-head, there is little to split these two players but our marginal preference is for Nishioka based on performance levels this week. He has found a way to win against all players and he can do so again here. It would not be a surprise if it goes three sets once again like their last four meetings and their semi-finals on Saturday, but Nishioka should shade it once again.
