Former world number eight John Isner comes into the Cincinnati Masters as a wildcard ranked just outside the top 100 as his evergreen career finally appears to be wining down. The 38-year-old only recently reached the semi-finals of the Hall of Fame Open last month, though, to prove his stopping power on US soil can still be potent but in-form Jordan Thompson should have some answers here. The 29-year-old has grafted hard on and off the tour this season to get back up to world number 55 and near his career-high of 43rd set back in 2019. Wins over Christopher Eubanks and Kevin Anderson en-route to the quarter-finals of the Washington Open recently suggest he is ready to face down Isner’s hammer arm but if the American can hit 80% serves in there is very little an opponent can do but pray for mistakes in a tiebreak. Back Thompson to earn at least a set and add at least a tiebreak in the match.
