JELENA OSTAPENKO VS CLARA TAUSON PREDICTION

World number 11 Jelena Ostapenko avoided a potential early upset well with a straight-sets victory over in-form Jaqueline Cristian. The 26-year-old burst onto the scene with an incredible run ton the Roland-Garros title in 2017, taking four three-set wins in a row including over 11th seed Caroline Wozniaki in the quarter-finals and Simone Halep in the final.

Ostapenko started 2024 off on fire with titles at the Adelaide International and Linz Open, beating Clara Tauson in three sets, but there was a dip in level until recent Masters events on clay, where she lost to Ons Jabeur in Madrid and Aryna Sabalenka in Rome to look a factor in Paris.

Former world number 33 Tauson stunned Ostapenko in three sets to win the Luxemburg Open title back in 2021, further signalling herself as a serious rising star, but she has fallen away in recent seasons. The Dane impressed in a straight sets victory over Tatjana Maria on Sunday and she will be eager to give her all on this big stage as she aims to get back on that prodigal pathway. Back Ostapenko to edge this, probably in three.
