World number 24 Denis Shapovalov received a bye to the round of 16 at the Korea Open as the fourth seed in Seoul but the Canadian could well have done with a kinder opener. The 23-year-old showed some brief signs of improving form at the US Open after a poor summer on tour but a five-set defeat to Andrey Rublev in the third round is a far cry from his run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year. World number 59 Jaume Munar essentially received a walkover on Monday when his opponent retired three games into their first round match and the Spaniard will be up for the challenge here. A three-match losing streak hardcourts before this week is troubling, though, and a first meeting with Shapovalov should not go his way if the Canadian brings his best level. With that unlikely, though, back Munar to win at least a set with recent matches in his legs.
