THE PREDICTION

This is an intriguing match-up between world number 48 Jasmine Paolini and number 140 Dayana Yastremska, with the Italian winning each of their three meetings last season. 26-year-old Paolini won her first WTA title at the Slovenia Open, beating Yastremska en-route, but the 21-year-old Ukrainian is fighting for more than just herself now as the horror continues in her homeland. Former world number 21 Yastremska has struggled to regain the level that took her to the brink of the top 20 after a dubious drugs ban but perhaps playing for her country will inspire her form. She came back from a set down to beat Anna Bogdan on Tuesday and then looked all the more assured against Cristina Bucsa on Thursday but fifth seed Paolini is a tough competitor. The likelihood of this going to three sets, as their previous match did, suggests backing Yastremska to win at least one of them is the sensible move.
