THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Caroline Garcia has endured a tough 2023 overall, struggling to find her insatiable form that saw her win four WTA titles in the latter half of last season, but she looks capable of ending it strongly after some excellent recent performances. The 29-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the China Open before defeat in three tight sets to eventual champion Iga Swiatek last week and a run to the semi-finals of the Guadalajara Masters late last month also saw her lose out to an eventual champion in Maria Sakkari. 27-year-old Jasmine Paolini set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 31st this week after a strong run to the round of 16 at the China Open was ended in tight straight sets by Aryna Sabalenka. The Italian beat Moyuka Uchijima in straight sets on Monday to get a solid start in Zhengzhou but she would have to put in one of her best performances to get past Garcia, who leads their head-to-head 4-0. This is a poor match-up for Paolini but the 27-year-old is a renowned grafter well capable of forcing a decider. Back Garcia to win outright.
