THE PREDICTION

World number two Jannik Sinner came back from 3-5 down in the second set to beat Pavel Kotov in two on Monday, backing up a blistering opener over Lorenzo Sonego. The 22-year-old’s ice-cold mentality has seen him self-correct to victory on a number of occasions this season, most notably coming from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev to the Australian Open title in January, and it came down to a spot of misfortune that he missed out on the Monte-Carlo Masters final in three tight sets to eventual champion Stefanos Tsitsipas.

World number 17 Karen Khachanov made the quarter-finals in Monte-Carlo before a straight-sets exit to Tsitsipas, similar to his strong run to the last 16 in Melbourne before Sinner beat him in three. The 27-year-old is a fearsome all-court threat to most players on tour but there is a reasonably clear gulf between his brick-wall game and the very elite in the sport. Khachanov beat Sinner in five sets at the US Open in 2020 but he has since lost all three of their encounters to trail 1-3. Back Sinner to make that 4-1 in straight sets here.

TIP: JANNIK SINNER TO WIN 2-0
