THE PREDICTION

There will likely be plenty of meetings between 21-year-old Jannik Sinner and 19-year-old Holger Rune over the next decade on tour and this first one will be fascinating. World number 10 Jannik Sinner made it 11 wins on the spin at the Sofia Open as a two-time defending champion, winning his maiden ATP title here back in 2020, and he has not dropped a set in six matches here after taking out Aleksandar Vukic on Friday. World number 31 Rune has dropped sets in his last two matches but both were impressive results over recent Moselle Open champion Lorenzo Sonego and then Ilya Ivashka, who recently reached the round of 16 at the US Open. The Dane clearly has his confidence back and looks to be developing a game for hardcourts after starting out his promising career as a clay-court specialist. Facing Sinner in Sofia should be one step too far but with three sets distinctly possible here back the Italian to win outright.
