JANNIK SINNER VS DANIIL MEDVEDEV PREDICTION

Jannik Sinner came through a potentially tricky round of 16 match on Wednesday as he beat Ben Shelton in straight sets and now he faces an old foe in Daniil Medvedev who he has played 13 times before.

The pair met as recently as the US Open which Sinner won in four sets but the score does not tell the whole story. Medvedev was the better player for long spells of that match but just could not quite get it over the line and ended up losing the key moments.

That is arguably the story of Medvedev’s career but he can take solace in that he did beat him at Wimbledon in the summer and edges the head-to-head 7-6.

A deeper look at the previous meetings however shows Sinner having won six of the last seven and recent form is clearly with the Italian.

Medvedev has come through some challenging matches in Shanghai so far and beaten two seeds in Matteo Arnaldi and then Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16 in straight sets.

Sinner is showing no signs of letting up despite losing the final of the China Open to Carlos Alcaraz last week. He has lost just six singles matches on the ATP Tour all year and it is hard to see him losing to somebody who he has dominated in recent meetings. We back the Italian to continue his fine form and inflict another loss on Medvedev.
