THE PREDICTION

World number seven Jannik Sinner put in a huge performance to stun rival Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets on Tuesday, taking a 4-3 lead in their head-to-head record. The 22-year-old should be the favourite for the title after such a feat but he would have to overturn a pretty convincing head-to-head with Daniil Medvedev to do so as the Russian leads 6-0 in a bad match-up for the Italian. This is, remarkably, the third final played between the two this season with Medvedev winning in three sets in Rotterdam and in straight-sets in Miami, the latter of which also came after Sinner had beaten Alcaraz. 27-year-old Medvedev has already won five ATP titles this season after enjoying some of the best form of his career and his imperious straight sets result over nemesis Alexander Zverev in the earlier match on Tuesday backs up a very strong campaign in Beijing. Sinner will almost certainly beat Medvedev one of these days but the Russian certainly has a mental edge in this final. Back Medvedev to lift the 21st ATP title of his career.
