JANNIK SINNER VS ALEXANDER ZVEREV PREDICTION
Jannik Sinner became the first ever Italian to make it through to the semi-finals in Cincinnati and he will have gained huge confidence following his win over Andrey Rublev. The match was following the same pattern as their match last week which Rublev won as the Russian won the first set before Sinner won the second. This time however, Sinner dug deep and handled the windy conditions better than Rublev to win the third set and progress.
He now meets Alexander Zverev who had to overcome a serious battle himself in the quarters as he faced a fired up Ben Shelton and the home crowd. Shelton won the first set but Zverev ground out a tiebreak win in the second and then won the last 7-5 to make it through. Zverev had to really graft for this one and it will likely serve him well coming into this match. He came up at key moments especially in the second set tiebreak that will give him confidence.
The pair have met five times before and it is Sascha Zverev holding the edge having won the last four meetings. Two over those came in the US Open in 2021 and 2023 while Sinner’s only win came back in 2020 at Roland Garros on clay.
It is Sinner that is favourite among the bookies and that can only be due to his form in 2024 rather than recent form nor their previous meetings. Zverev looks that fraction more comfortable on the hard courts in Cincinnati and the clear value lies on the German. This could quite easily be a match that is worth trading in-play but the starting position has to be with Zverev. We would not rule out a three-setter here neither.
