JAKUB MENSIK VS NOVAK DJOKOVIC PREDICTION
Czech 19-year-old Jakub Mensik is enjoying a superb week in Shanghai and he comes off an outstanding win over Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16. He needed three sets for the fourth consecutive match, but he showed great grit and determination when it looked like the veteran Bulgarian was getting a grip in the match.
In fairness to Mensik, he has shown his strength of character throughout the week in China and it was not dissimilar against Andrey Rublev in the second round after losing the first set.
He will have to be at his absolute best for his next match as he now faces legend Novak Djokovic.
The legendary Serb is cruising through his matches without being at his best. Alex Michelsen pushed him hardest in the opening match as he went to two tiebreaks but his wins over Flavio Cobolli and his latest against Roman Safiullin have been comfortable to say the least.
That is an ominous sign for his opponents including Mensik here. The young Czech has had some tough matches and while he is young, whether he is experienced to handle such a tough run of high intensity and relatively long matches remains to be seen.
That will make this challenge even greater especially as Djokovic is getting better by the match. The Serb is playing well and should be able to control this match throughout. Expect a straight-sets win for Novak.
