JAKUB MENSIK VS ALEXANDER SHEVCHENKO PREDICTION
Czech 19-year-old Jakub Mensik produced an outstanding performance on Saturday as he fought back after losing the first set to Andrey Rublev to win the next two and pull off an upset win over the six seed.
Mensik is enjoying a breakout year on the ATP Tour and the talented youngster is full of confidence coming into the third round where he now meets Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko.
The 23-year-old will be confident himself after beating 27th seed Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets on Saturday. Shevchenko is actually ahead of Mensik in the world rankings but his 2024 has been nowhere near as good as 2023 nor the year that Mensik has enjoyed.
Shevchenko has played Mensik twice and it was the Czech player that won both matches. They met at the Olympics this summer which Mensik won 6-3 6-4 and then on the Challenger Tour last year which Mensik won in three. Both matches were on clay so this will be a different surface but we can see the same outcome.
Mensik is playing good tennis right now and while there may be something of an emotional drop-off after beating Rublev, he has momentum and he can keep that going against a player he has had solid success against previously.
