THE PREDICTION

World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas will play his first match in over a month, with his most recent a four-set defeat to Nick Kyrgios in the third round of Wimbledon last month. The 23-year-old had won the Mallorca Championships the week before for a ninth career ATP title, and a second this season after defending his Monte-Carlo Masters title, but he has underperformed overall so far this season. The likelihood that Novak Djokovic will miss the US Open adds pressure to the likes of Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini and Carlos Alcaraz over the next few weeks as they each gear up for a tilt at a first Grand Slam title and the Greek represents one of the tougher obstacles to defending champion Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal.

A month’s break may well have done Tsitsipas the world of good but this could still be a really tough first meeting with Jack Draper as the youngster continues his steady progress. 20-year-old Draper will set a career-high ATP world ranking of around 66th after qualifying for and winning his Canada Masters debut in straight sets against Hugo Gaston. The Brit will have few better chances to beat Tsitsipas than at this moment but the Greek should eventually be able to edge through the outright winner, with three sets about as likely as two. You could add at least a tiebreak in the match between two powerful servers.
