World number 16 Cam Norrie has lost five of his last six matches as he continues to struggle with form in 2023 but he took the first set against Andrey Rublev last week in Beijing to suggest improvements are coming. The 28-year-old won his most prestigious of five ATP titles at Indian Wells in 2021 but his last huge run came at Wimbledon last summer, where he took the first set before defeat to eventual Novak Djokovic. World number 51 J.J. Wolf came back from a set down to beat Pedro Cachin on Thursday, snapping his own five-match losing streak for a much-needed spot of relief. The 24-year-old found the form of his career so far this time last season but he has struggled to match the intensity that saw him reach the round of 16 at the Australian Open back in January. Back Norrie to win this first encounter outright but it is probably worth leaving this match between two players bereft of confidence far from an accumulator.
