THE PREDICTION
World number 53 Ilya Ivashka rode his luck in the round of 16, coming back from a set down to beat lucky loser Steve Johnson after Reilly Opelka pulled out last-minute, but the Belarussian will be the better for it in this quarter-final. The 28-year-old set a career-high of 40th last month off the back of a maiden ATP title won last season at the Winston-Salem Open and he has the potential to break that, especially across this North American hardcourt swing. World number 36 Tommy Paul will have similar designs on the world’s top 30 with his career-high set at 32nd last month after a hugely impressive turn on the grass. In fact, Paul would be ranked well inside the top 30 now were it not for a=the controversial stripping of ranking points at Wimbledon after he reached the round of 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time earlier this month before defeat to Cam Norrie in three. The 25-year-old is yet to drop a set in Atlanta with strong results over Jack Sock and Soonwoo Kwon and he should be well capable of coming through this first meeting with Ivashka. Three sets is a fair possibility, so back Paul to win outright.
