THE LOWDOWN
IGA SWIATEK
Seventh seed Iga Swiatek conceded just three games to British qualifier Harriet Dart on Tuesday to reach the second round of the Australian Open with a statement of intent. The 20-year-old won Roland-Garros as a teenager back in 2019 without dropping a set and she reached the quarter-finals last season before an injury hampered her ability to play to her ruthless best. Swiatek claimed a first Masters title last season at the Italian Open but she can also do it on hard as a victory in Adelaide last year suggests.
REBECCA PETERSON
World number 82 Rebecca Peterson was clinical in her victory over Aussie qualifier Daria Saville on Tuesday to reach the second round of the Australian Open for only the second time. The Swede has only gone further once before with a third round exit at the US Open in 2018.
THE PREDICTION
This looks one of the more straightforward matches of the second round between world number nine Iga Swiatek and Rebecca Peterson. The Pole beat Peterson in the second round of Roland-Garros last season, conceding just two games in the process, and while the Swede could fare a little better off the clay this should still be a straight-sets victory for Swiatek.
