IGA SWIATEK Four-time Grand Slam champion, two-time defending here at Roland-Garros

World number one Iga Swiatek put in a perfect performance on Sunday to hand Anastasia Potapova two bagels, conceding just 10 points in a 6-0 6-0 whitewash. The 23-year-old was tested more by Naomi Osaka in their three-set second round epic than ever before at Roland-Garros, where she is establishing dominance that could one day resemble something of her idol Rafael Nadal’s, but she has looked in peak form since.

Swiatek has lost just twice at Roland-Garros but only once since winning her maiden Grand Slam title here in 2020, with injury seeing her miss out to Maria Sakkari in the quarter-finals a year later.

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA 2023 Wimbledon champion, runner-up here in 2019

24-year-old Marketa Vondrousova will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of fifth after beating in-form Olga Danilovic on Sunday. The Czech was handed a bagel by Katie Volynets in the second round to look in danger of crashing out early but she returned from a rain delay with a vengeance to make a third quarter-final out of her last four major campaigns.

Vondrousova ghosted to the Wimbledon title last July, having barely won a match on grass before, but her first love was clay after finishing runner-up to Ash Barty here in 2019.

IGA SWIATEK VS MARKETA VONDROUSOVA PREDICTION

This looks a really intriguing clash between two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek and former finalist Marketa Vondrousova, although it has proven to be a poor match-up for the Czech in the past. Swiatek leads their head-to-head 3-0 without yet dropping a set to Vondrousova, handing her a bagel in their round robin fixture at the WTA Finals late last season, but the Wimbledon champion should never be underestimated again at this level after her astounding run last summer.

Swiatek claimed the shortest win of her ruthless career so far with a 6-0 6-0 victory over Anastasia Potapova but it would not be a total surprise to see Vondrosuova suddenly find her elusive best level with the pressure on. Back Swiatek to win outright inside an accumulator or otherwise in straight sets.

IGA SWIATEK VS MARKETA VONDROUSOVA TIP: IGA SWIATEK TO WIN 2-0
