THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Liudmila Samsonova will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of at least 25th no matter the outcome of his this first meeting with world number one Iga Swiatek. The Russian won her first WTA title on grass at last season’s Berlin Open and there is clearly something about Germany that makes her tick as she took out in-form clay specialist Laura Siegemund in two sets to reach the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open. Samsonova is yet to drop a set, with Karolina Pliskova a big name in her run this week, but she is unlikely to win one now against Iga Swiatek, who beat Emma Raducanu in a well-contested match on Friday to extend her incredible winning streak to 19. The 20-year-old has not conceded a set for 11 matches now, with her streak running across three Masters titles at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells and Miami Open. Now back on her best surface, which should be scaring the rest of the WTA ahead of Madrid, Rome and Roland-Garros, the Pole looks set to blast through all challengers in Stuttgart. Take Swiatek to win in straight sets.
