Although Iga Swiatek comes into this last eight clash as favourite, she now has to get past an American juggernaut playing arguably her best tennis of the year. You could argue that Pegula is the only player right now capable of matching Swiatek on the hard court surface and beat Swiatek in two of the four matches they had against each other in 2023.
Although the Polish superstar is a former US Open champion, Swiatek isn’t as formidable at Flushing Meadows as she is at Roland-Garros and it remains to be seen as to how she will respond to a packed crowd firmly behind USA’s Pegula.
