This could be a proper thriller if world number 12 Emma Raducanu brings her best tennis to a first meeting with world number one Iga Swiatek but it is likelier that the imperious Pole blasts through everybody this week in Stuttgart. The 20-year-old conceded just two games to German qualifier Eva Lys on Wednesday in her first match on her favoured clay this season and since she won three Masters titles back-to-back at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells and the Miami Open. The 2020 Roland-Garros champion looks set to dominate the WTA tour for the foreseeable future and she is now riding an 18-match winning streak into the quarter-finals, the last nine of which she has not conceded a set. 2021 US Open champion Raducanu has the potential to reach the heights that Swiatek is displaying but there is no doubt that this is the toughest match of her young career – tougher than any she faced in New York.
