IGA SWIATEK Three-time Roland-Garros champion, two-time defending

World number one Iga Swiatek has conceded just two games in her last two rounds to look her ruthless, dominant best once again in Paris. The 23-year-old was challenged harder than she has ever been at Roland-Garros by a superb Naomi Osaka in the second round but she has blasted past Marie Bouzkova, Anastasia Potapova and former finalist Marketa Vondrousova since to make a defiant statement.

Swiatek has lost just twice at Roland-Garros and once since winning her first title here in 2020, with an injury against Maria Sakkari in the quarter-finals in 2021 seemingly the only thing that can stop her.

COCO GAUFF US Open champion, runner-up to Swiatek here in 2022

20-year-old Coco Gauff fought back from a set down to beat Ons Jabeur in her typically brave, battling style on Tuesday. The American can set a new career-high WTA world ranking of second if Aryna Sabalenka is upset in the quarter-finals on Wednesday but she will clearly reach the top one day, sooner rather than later, with that innate ability to win ugly that props up so many of the elite champions.

Gauff has a Swiatek problem, however, with just one win in 11 against the imperious Pole – including her most recent loss at this stage of the Italian Open last three weeks ago.

IGA SWIATEK VS COCO GAUFF PREDICTION

Coco Gauff looked like she was improving her form in Rome last month just in time to make a tilt for the French Open title but, realistically, she needed someone like Naomi Osaka to remove Iga Swiatek from the equation. The American’s incredible determination, pace and power are too much for most players but Swiatek has targeted her weak spots time and time again over the years, including in the final here two years ago, to establish a wholly convincing 11-1 lead in their head-to-head.

At the pinnacle of her purple patch last summer, that culminated in winning her maiden Grand Slam in New York, Gauff overcame Swiatek at this stage of the Cincinnati Masters to claim her solitary win. However, Swiatek has won each of their 11 other matches in straight sets, including three weeks ago in Rome, and she frankly looks unstoppable once again in Paris. Back the Pole to win in two.

IGA SWIATEK VS COCO GAUFF TIP: IGA SWIATEK TO WIN 2-0
