THE PREDICTION
World number one Iga Swiatek continued her pursuit of a first WTA title on home soil here at the Poland Open with a comprehensive victory over Gabriela Lee. The 21-year-old won six tournaments in a row this season, with Roland-Garros and a remarkable four Masters titles amongst them from Qatar, Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid but the grass swing scuppered her incredible 37-match winning streak. Former world number four Caroline Garcia enjoyed the grass, taking her eighth WTA title at the Bad Homburg Open, but she is still arguably at her best on clay and this is a significant test for home hopeful Swiatek. 28-year-old Garcia has a ceiling almost as high as Swiatek’s on her day but the Pole almost constantly plays from her penthouse and that should be the difference here if both players find their best level. Swiatek in straight sets should come through but the sensible option is an outright pick given Garcia’s summer so far.
