THE PREDICTION
27-year-old Hubert Hurkacz brought a career-high ATP world ranking of eighth into Monte-Carlo after completing his surfaces set of ATP titles with a first clay-court trophy last weekend in Estoril. The Pole can now count at least one clay, grass, outdoor hard and indoor hard title amidst his career total of eight trophies but we should not expect him to become a top-tier force on this surface, with his most potent weapons significantly dampened on clay. A three-set opener over Jack Draper was an impressive start on Tuesday and he takes a confident five-match winning streak into this intriguing clash with former number nine Roberto Bautista Agut.
35-year-old RBA looks ready to rebuild his current ranking of 90th after a poor past 12 or so months on tour, with a strong qualifying run in Monte-Carlo backed-up in straight sets against lucky loser Facundo Diaz Acosta. The Spaniard won each of his first three meetings with Hurkacz but the Pole won both of their matches last season to trail 2-3 in their head-to-head – making this first encounter on clay very interesting indeed. Four of their five matches have seen at least a tiebreak, so take that option here to leave a likely thriller up to chance.
TIP: OVER 0.5 TIEBREAKS
