THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Hubert Hurkacz won the Men’s Doubles event here alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime in 2020 and he claimed the first Masters single title of his career a few months later at the Miami Open. The 25-year-old has won just one title this season but a prestigious one at the Halle Open, with inconsistencies in his performances from match-to-match seeing him miss out on several opportunities in 2022. A straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino on Tuesday was a solid start to his Paris campaign but he faces a rising star in serious form next up in 19-year-old Holger Rune. The Dane came back from a set down to edge out Stan Wawrinka on Tuesday, saving three match points in the process, in keeping with his searing late-season form that has seen him reach three finals on the indoor-hardcourt swing – winning his second ATP title at the Stockholm Open. Hurkacz can be a world-beater at his best but the Pole is probably the just-about least-dependable performer in this first encounter. Back Rune to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
