THE PREDICTION

Defending champion Holger Rune will be a fascinating watch this week in Stockholm as he continues to struggle with form and fitness on tour. The world number six successfully defended his maiden ATP title at the Munich Open back in April and he would be the clear favourite to make that two from two this week had he not lost five of his last six matches since a huge run to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in July. The Dane took just two games from Brandon Nakashima in Shanghai two weeks ago but a rest period since then should see him improved, if not fully recovered. World number 53 Miomir Kecmanovic brings a negative 23-26 record into this first meeting with Rune, despite finishing runner-up at two events this season, as he continues to struggle with consistency on tour. The 24-year-old stands a very solid chance at an upset here after a straight-sets opener on Monday but Rune is not the type to give up a trophy easily. Take the Dane to earn at least a set to leave the result up to chance.
