THE PREDICTION

World number 14 Cam Norrie did well to come back from a set down to beat Aslan Karatsev on Wednesday in his first match back on tour since contracting covid-19. The Brit’s matches should still be treated with caution over the next few weeks with so many players suffering unseen effects on their game and recovery post-covid but a tough opener in Stockholm puts him in good stead for this quarter-final. 27-year-old Norrie leads Holger Rune 3-0 in their head-to-head record having played the Dane three times already this season and there will be no love lost in this potential thriller on Friday, particularly where the teenager is concerned. World number 27 Rune is yet to drop a set this week after most recently ousting Cristian Garin on Wednesday and he has started to find an impressive groove on hardcourts, particularly indoor conditions. Two of their three matches this season have needed a deciding set and with Norrie’s fitness in question the shrewd move could actually be taking Rune to win at least a set here even if the Brit ends up victorious.
