HOLGER RUNE VS BRANDON NAKASHIMA PREDICTION
Holger Rune comes into the US Open with some solid performances behind him in the recent hard-court tournaments in North America. He has only ever reached the third round in 2022 and otherwise he has had two first-round exits so this is a Grand Slam event he will be eager to improve his previous records on.
The 21-year-old Dane reached the semi-finals in Cincinnati only to be edged out by runner-up Frances Tiafoe on a final set tiebreak. He will take heart from that week however that he can do well in New York.
He faces talented American Brandon Nakashima who will have plenty of confidence himself. Nakashima has beaten Rune on both previous occasions they have met so he will undoubtedly have plenty of belief coming into this one.
Nakashima has been playing well himself of late but was eliminated in the Canadian and Cincinnati events by Andrey Rublev on both occasions. He has however some notable scalps such as Tom Paul, Denis Shapovalov and Taylor Fritz in those events so he will not be phased by meeting Rune.
This really is a match that could go either way and the value lies with Nakashima. Our preference however is on both players to win a set as we could easily see this being a topsy-turvy affair and potentially a five-setter.
